Vigabatrin Sabrilex is an anti-epileptic drug. Clinically, Vigabatrin Sabrilex is used to treat epilepsy in which other anti-epileptic drugs are ineffective, especially partial seizures. It can also treat infantile spasms (West syndrome, West syndrome). Sabrilex is a drug used to treat epilepsy and infantile spasms that was developed in the 1980s. The main component of Sabrilex is vigabatrin (vigabatrin). The mechanism of action of Sabrilex is to irreversibly inhibit GABA aminotransferase (GABA-T) and increase the concentration of GABA in the brain. In the past two years, more and more children with TSC have effectively controlled their epilepsy through treatment with Vigabatrin. Western countries even use Vigabatrin, Sabrilex, to prevent EEG abnormalities in children with TSC who have not yet developed the disease. It can be seen that the effect is quite significant.

Sabrilex is administered orally. The maximum daily dose for adults is 2-3g. When starting to take Sabrilex, 1g per day is appropriate. Then, depending on the response after taking the medication, if the response is good, it can be increased by 0.5g per week, and finally reaches a dosage of 2-3g Sabrilex per day. Vigabatrin tablets Sabrilex should be taken under the guidance of an epilepsy specialist or child neurologist. Reactions after taking the medication should be reported to the doctor promptly.

Vigabatrin tablets Sabrilex is an oral medicine that can be taken once or twice a day, before or after meals. It is advisable to drink half a glass of water when taking the medicine. If your epilepsy does not improve after taking it for a sufficient period of time, you should stop taking vigabatrin. At this time, vigabatrin should be gradually stopped under the supervision of a doctor. Children younger than 6 years old are prone to choking when taking vigabatrin tablets, so be aware of this.

Among pediatric patients, 135 children aged 2 months to 12 years old with intractable epilepsy were treated with vigabatrin tablets. The effective rate was 34%, of which 49% were effective for partial seizures, and only half of that for generalized seizures. There were 13 cases of infantile spasms and 26 cases of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Symptomatic childhood spasticity is better treated than cryptogenic spasticity.

How long does it take for Vigabatrin to take effect?

Since each patient's condition and personal constitution are different, the time it takes for a patient to take effect after receiving Sabrilex treatment is also different, and the time it takes to take effect is determined by the patient's disease stage and personal constitution.
