(Vigabatrin) is a synthetic derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It increases the concentration of the inhibitory hormonal mediator GABA in the brain by irreversibly inhibiting GABA aminotransferase. In 2009, vigabatrin tablets were approved for marketing in the United States and are mainly used for the treatment of epilepsy in infants and adults.

The usual adult dosage of vigabatrin tablets (Vigabatrin) for the prevention of epileptic seizures is as follows: Initial dosage: 1 g per day (containing 500 mg orally, twice a day, with or without food), the total daily dose may be increased by 500 mg weekly, depending on response. Common side effects of Vigabatrin may include: blurred vision or other eye problems; drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness; problems with walking or coordination; tremors or shaking; aggressive behavior; confusion, thinking or memory problems; weight gain; joint pain; cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat; (in babies) irritability, ear infection, cough, difficulty breathing.
