(Sirolimus) is an immunosuppressant drug mainly given to organ recipients for organ transplant surgery. It is a bacterial species derived from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. What diseases does Rapamin (sirolimus tablets) treat?

Indications of Rapamin: Rapamin is suitable for patients aged 13 or above who have received kidney transplants to prevent organ rejection. It is recommended that rapamycin be used in combination with cyclosporine and corticosteroids. Monitoring of therapeutic drug plasma concentrations is recommended for all patients receiving rapamycin.

In addition, potential side effects of rapamycin include joint, stomach and back pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, weight gain, swelling of hands and feet, insomnia, fever and rash. Although these symptoms are most often temporary, they can also be long-lasting. Severe symptoms include unexplained bruising or bleeding, difficulty breathing, coughing, frequent urination, blurred vision, a fast or slow heartbeat, and mood changes. If you experience some of these symptoms, you should notify your doctor promptly.

Because rapamycin suppresses the immune system, anyone taking this drug is at increased risk for infections. This drug can slow wound healing time and increase blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure.

Additionally, taking this drug increases your risk of lymphoma, skin cancer, and other types of cancer. If you notice changes in the color of skin freckles or moles, swollen lymph nodes, or unexplained weight loss, fever, or night sweats, you should tell your doctor immediately.

People taking this drug should avoid contact with people with communicable diseases, including colds and flu, as this drug can increase the chance of infection. Only get vaccinated with your doctor's consent. Live vaccines in particular should be avoided because of the potential risk of serious infection. In addition, avoid direct sunlight as much as possible, and wear sun protection when going out, otherwise it will increase the risk of skin cancer.
