Lowering uric acid is the most important and longest-lasting step in the treatment of gout. Currently, there are three commonly used gout uric acid-lowering drugs in clinical practice: allopurinol, benzbromarone, and uric acid-lowering drugs. Among them, febuxostat has the strongest uric acid-lowering effect and has relatively fewer side effects. Therefore, it has been welcomed by gout patients as soon as it came on the market. Today we will learn about the dosage of febuxostat?

1. Recommended dosage: When used to treat patients with hyperuricemia with gout symptoms, the recommended dosage of this product is 40 mg or 80 mg, once a day. The recommended starting dose of this product is 40 mg, and there is no need to consider the effects of food or antacids when administering this product.

2. Special groups: Patients with mild or moderate renal impairment do not need to adjust the dose when taking this product. The recommended starting dose of this product is 40 mg once daily. After a dose of 40 mg for two weeks, for patients whose serum uric acid level (sUA) is still higher than 6 mg/dl, the recommended dose is 80 mg.

3. Patients with mild to moderate liver function impairment do not need to adjust the dosage of this product. There are no studies on the use of this product in patients with severe hepatic impairment, so this product should be administered with caution.

4. Uric acid level: Serum uric acid can be retested after 2 weeks of treatment with this product. The goal of treatment is to reduce and maintain serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dl.

5. To prevent acute attacks of gout, it is recommended to take medication for at least 6 months.

6. Gout attacks: Changing serum uric acid levels can lead to the activity of deposited urate, thus leading to gout attacks after starting administration of this product. It is recommended that this product be used together with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or colchicine to prevent gout attacks. It is recommended to take the medicine for at least 6 months to prevent acute attacks of gout. If gout occurs during treatment with this drug, there is no need to discontinue the drug. Individual patients with gout should be treated accordingly.

7. Secondary hyperuricemia: There is no study on the administration of this product to patients with secondary hyperuricemia (including organ transplant patients); the use of this product is not recommended for patients with increased urate production rate (such as malignant diseases and their treatment, Leigh-Naphthalene syndrome). In rare cases, the concentration of xanthines in the urine increases significantly and is deposited in the urinary tract.

The above is the dosage content, I hope it can help you!
