Dimethyl phosphate tablets (Astomin) are a non-narcotic antitussive drug that has been used for a long time in Japan and has proven efficacy. Its core ingredient is dimethyl phosphate (Dimemorfan Phosphate), which exerts a powerful antitussive effect by directly acting on the cough center of the brain.

What diseases does Astomin treat?

It is mainly used to relieve cough symptoms caused by the following respiratory diseases. According to the instructions, its indications cover a variety of common and chronic respiratory diseases.

1. Acute respiratory infection

(1) Upper airway inflammation (upper respiratory tract infection): acute cough caused by common cold, pharyngitis, etc.

(2) Acute tracheobroncitis: Cough caused by acute inflammation of the trachea and bronchi.

(3) Pneumonia: Severe cough caused by lung infection requires antitussive treatment in addition to anti-infective treatment.

2. Chronic respiratory diseases

(1) Chronic bronchitis: long-term cough and sputum are the main symptoms. This product can be used to relieve cough.

(2) Tuberculosis and related diseases: As an auxiliary treatment for tuberculosis, pneumoconiosis (pulmonary pneumoconiosis) and their complications (such as pulmonary tuberculosis), used to control intractable cough.

(3) Lung cancer: used to relieve cough symptoms in patients with lung cancer caused by tumor compression or irritation of the respiratory tract.

Usage and dosage of Dimethyl Phosphate Tablets (Astomin)

1. Standard dosage and usage

(1) Applicable groups: adults and adolescents over 15 years old.

(2). Each dose: 1-2 tablets (equivalent to 10mg to 20mg of dimethyl phosphate).

(3). Frequency of taking: 3 times a day, orally.

(4) Usage tips: It can be taken after meals to reduce potential irritation to the gastrointestinal tract.

2. Principles of dose adjustment

(1) Adjust according to symptoms: When coughing is severe, the upper limit dose (2 tablets each time) can be taken; after the symptoms are relieved, it can be reduced to 1 tablet each time as appropriate.

(2) Adjust according to age: Especially for elderly patients (see Precautions for details), since physiological functions may be reduced, it is necessary to consider starting with a lower dose.

Dimethylphosphate Tablets (Astomin) Medication Precautions

1. Medication Instructions and Dosing Warnings

(1). PTP packaging warning: The tablets must be taken out of the aluminum foil sheet (PTPsheet) before taking them. Never swallow the entire tablet directly, because the sharp angles of the hard aluminum foil may puncture the esophageal mucosa, leading to serious or even life-threatening complications such as perforation and mediastinitis.

(2) Dosage compliance: The dosage should be taken strictly in accordance with the doctor's guidance or the recommended dosage in the instructions. Do not increase the dosage or frequency of taking the medicine on your own.

2. Medication warning for special groups

(1) Diabetic patients

This product may cause mild changes in glucose tolerance. Diabetic patients need to strengthen blood sugar monitoring during medication.

(2) Pregnant women and women who may be pregnant

It can only be used when the doctor judges that the benefits of treatment are greater than the potential risks to the fetus. You must actively inform the doctor of the status or possibility of pregnancy before taking the medicine.

(3) Lactating women

Should consider the mother's treatment needs and the benefits of breastfeeding, carefully decide whether to continue breastfeeding or suspend medication, and discuss with the doctor to make the most beneficial choice.

(4), elderly patients

The liver and kidney functions of elderly people may naturally decline, resulting in slower drug metabolism and excretion. It is necessary to reduce the dosage as appropriate under the guidance of a doctor and closely observe the body's reaction.
