Compared with common cancers such as stomach cancer and lung cancer, many people know less about cholangiocarcinoma and have rarely even heard of cholangiocarcinoma. In fact, cholangiocarcinoma is called the “king of cancers” and is very malignant. In recent years, the number of patients with cholangiocarcinoma has increased year by year, and more of them are men. 2-3 times, mostly concentrated in the 50-60 age group. Today, I will take you to take a closer look at the "king of cancers" that is easily overlooked - bile duct cancer.

1. What is cholangiocarcinoma?

Cholangiocarcinoma is a malignant tumor originating from the extrahepatic bile duct, including the bile duct from the portal area to the lower end of the common bile duct. The causes of cholangiocarcinoma may be related to bile duct stones, primary sclerosing cholangitis and other diseases.

Because the bile duct is located inside the liver, it is generally not easy to go undiagnosed in the early stages. Many patients are not diagnosed until the middle and late stages. Clinical data shows that more than half of cholangiocarcinoma patients have developed liver metastasis or hematogenous metastasis after being diagnosed. Only 30% of patients with the disease can undergo surgery. Patients who cannot undergo surgery have a survival time of less than two years, and even for patients who can undergo surgery, the five-year survival rate is only 30%. Therefore, cholangiocarcinoma is called the “king of cancers”.

2. What are the characteristics of cholangiocarcinoma?

The early symptoms of cholangiocarcinoma are easily ignored or considered to be the sequelae of bad lifestyle habits, lacking specific clinical manifestations. Generally, if you experience upper abdominal discomfort or abdominal pain, abdominal distension, fever, itchy skin, loss of appetite, and a few symptoms of weight loss and fatigue, you need to be more vigilant and go to the hospital for treatment and appropriate examinations.

3. How to prevent cholangiocarcinoma in daily life?

In terms of diet, eat more foods rich in protein and vitamins. Mainly eat a light diet, but you can also eat whole grains such as sweet potatoes, millet, and cereals. Avoid high fat, high sugar, and high salt, and avoid overeating.

Eggs, milk, and meat are all foods rich in protein, and various soy products are also rich in protein. From the perspective of ease of digestion and absorption, it is recommended that eggs, milk and fish are the first choices. If you do not drink milk, you can eat more egg whites, and the average intake of egg yolks should not exceed 1 per day.

Various foods contain different types of vitamins, among which vegetables and fruits are richer in vitamins. It is recommended to consume about 500g of vegetables and 300g of fruits every day. For vegetables, you can choose rape, yam, radish, bitter gourd, enoki mushroom, fungus, toon, taro, etc. For fruits, you can choose banana, bayberry, fig, walnut, etc.

Secondly, change bad living habits, don’t stay up late, and maintain regular and moderate exercise. Drink alcohol in moderation and don't smoke. Maintain a positive and optimistic attitude in life and avoid negative emotions such as anxiety, depression, and anger. In addition, you should insist on exercising, such as walking, etc., and pay attention to the balance between work and rest. Avoiding prolonged sitting and less exercise are not conducive to the recovery of body functions.

4. Conclusion

The early symptoms of cholangiocarcinoma are not likely to arouse patients' vigilance. If you have the symptoms of cholangiocarcinoma mentioned above, you must seek medical treatment in time for early detection and early treatment. Physical examinations can be maintained 1-2 times a year to screen for various diseases.
