Perampanel is an anticonvulsant drug used to treat epileptic seizures in adults and children.
Perampanel is used to treat partial-onset epilepsy in patients over 4 years of age with epilepsy that may progress to generalized epilepsy.
Perampanel is also used with other drugs to treat primary generalized tonic-clonic (PGTC) seizures in patients 12 years of age and older.
warning
Some people taking perampanel have serious psychotic effects, especially when starting this medication or when the dose is changed. Be alert to changes in mood or symptoms.
Before taking medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have the following conditions:
Depression, psychological disorders or other mental health problems; thoughts of harming yourself or others; liver and kidney diseases; drug addiction;Alcoholism.
Dosage information
Normal adult doses of perampanel for epileptic seizures:
1. In the absence of enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs:
Initial dose: 2 mg orally once daily at bedtime. The dose may be increased by 2 mg orally daily, no more than once per week. Maintenance dose: 4-12 mg orally daily before bedtimeMaximum dose: 12 mg orally daily at bedtime
2. In the presence of enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs (including phenytoin, carbamazepine, and oxcarbazepine):
Initial dose: 4 mg orally at bedtime, once daily. Patient response should be closely monitored. Studies have shown that these patients experience significantly reduced seizure rates. Patients should be monitored for clinical response and tolerability when these enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs are introduced or withdrawn from the treatment regimen. Perampanel dose adjustment may be necessary.
Maximum dose: 12 mg orally daily at bedtime
Approved indications: Adjuvant treatment of partial-onset epilepsy with or without secondary generalized seizures in epileptic patients 12 years of age and older.
Perampanel dosage for seizures in children:
Ages 12 or older:
1. In the absence of enzyme-inducing anti-epileptic drugs: Initial dose: 2 mg, once daily, orally before bedtime. The dose may be increased by 2 mg orally daily, no more than once per week.
Maintenance dose: 4 to 12 mg once daily at bedtime, maximum dose: 12 mg orally once daily at bedtime.
2. In the case of enzyme-inducing anti-epileptic drugs (including phenytoin, carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine):
The initial dose is: 4mg, taken orally once a day before going to bed. Patient response should be closely monitored. Studies have shown that these patients experience significantly reduced seizure rates. Patients should be monitored for clinical response and tolerability when these enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs are introduced or withdrawn from the treatment regimen. Dosage adjustment may be required.
Maximum dose: 12 mg orally daily at bedtime

Avoid taking the following medications at the same time:
birth control pills; Rifampicin; St. John's Wort;Other epilepsy medicines - carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin.
