【Drug name】SABRIL (Vigabatrin)

[Ingredients] Vigabatrin

[Function and Indications] Vigabatrin (Sabril) is used for the treatment of epilepsy patients

[Model and specifications] Tablets: 500mg each

[Usage and Dosage] Orally: For adults and children over 6 years old, the starting dose is 500 mg/d, and then increase by 250 mg/d every 4-7 days until the best effect is achieved. The highest dose is 1.5g/d. For children aged 3-6 years, the starting dose is 250mg/d, and then increased by 250mg/d every 4-7 days until the best effect is achieved. If it exceeds 0.75-1.0g/d for children and 1.25g/d for adults, it should be taken under strict supervision by a doctor.

【Notes】

Anemia: Associated with decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit; cases of significant decreases in hemoglobin (<8 g/dL) or hematocrit (<24%) have been reported.

Central Nervous System Depression: May cause central nervous system depression, which may impair physical or mental abilities; patients must be cautioned not to perform tasks that require mental alertness (such as operating machinery or driving).

Edema: Peripheral edema and oedema have been reported to be associated with hypertension, heart failure, weight gain, and renal or hepatic insufficiency.

Neurotoxicity: Intramyelin edema has been reported (rarely) in infants. Patients must be closely monitored for potential neurotoxicity (observed in animal models but not in adults).

[Adverse reactions and contraindications]

1. Adverse reactions may include drowsiness, ataxia, headache, dizziness, agitation, memory impairment, and weight gain, but most patients do not see these adverse reactions.

2. When used together, this product can reduce the plasma concentrations of phenytoin, phenobarbital and primidone by 20%, 7% and 11% respectively. When this drug is combined with phenytoin, the dose of phenytoin needs to be increased (but there is no need to increase the dose when phenobarbital and primidone are combined with this product).
