Sabril is an analog of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Sabril can specifically bind to GABA aminotransferase and irreversibly, leading to an increase in GABA concentration in the brain, thus exerting anti-epileptic effects. Clinically, Sabril is used to treat epilepsy in which other anti-epileptic drugs are ineffective, especially partial seizures; Sabril can also treat infantile spasms (West syndrome, West syndrome). What are the side effects? How to alleviate it?

Like most drugs, treatment with Sabril will also produce certain side effects. Common side effects of Sabril include: fatigue, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, confusion, and depression. Symptoms include occasional aggressive behavior and psychosis (more common in patients with a history of mental illness and behavioral problems), memory loss, diplopia, weight gain, gastrointestinal disorders, edema, and hair loss. Nystagmus, nervousness, agitation, ataxia, paresthesia, and tremor may also occur with treatment with Sabril. Children may become excited and anxious.

Vigabatrin treatment methods

Since each patient's physical condition is not exactly the same, the degree of side effects after treatment with Sabril is also not exactly the same. If serious side effects occur, please contact your doctor in time.

Taking Sabril for treatment may affect your ability to drive and use machines. Generally, patients with uncontrolled epilepsy are not allowed to drive or operate potentially dangerous machinery. Given reports of drowsiness during clinical use of Sabril, patients should be warned before initiating treatment with Sabril.

The onset of vision loss is unpredictable, and vision assessment is recommended at baseline (no later than 4 weeks after starting treatment), at least every 3 months of treatment, and approximately 3-6 months after stopping treatment. If vision loss is documented, consider discontinuing the drug, balancing benefits and risks.
