Efficacy of sirolimus

Sirolimus (sirolimus) is a drug used to prevent the body from rejecting a newly transplanted kidney. It is used in adults who are at low to moderate risk of rejection. It is recommended that sirolimus be taken with cyclosporine and corticosteroids (other drugs to prevent organ rejection) for two to three months. Sirolimus may be used for continuation of corticosteroid therapy, but only if cyclosporine therapy can be discontinued. To prevent organ rejection, the first dose after transplantation is usually 6 mg, followed by 2 mg once daily.
