The clinical manifestations of osteoporosis are reduced bone mass, severe damage to the microstructure of bone tissue, and increased bone fragility. It is more common in postmenopausal women and elderly men and can increase the risk of fractures. Clinical drugs for the treatment of osteoporosis include bisphosphonates, vitamin D, calcitonin, etc. Among them, bisphosphonates can significantly increase bone density and reduce the risk of fractures. It is a third-generation bisphosphonate preparation that can effectively inhibit bone resorption, inhibit osteoclast activity, improve patients' clinical symptoms, and promote joint function recovery. So, is zoledronic acid effective in treating osteoporosis?

Zoledronic acid is effective in treating osteoporosis

Research purpose: To observe the effect of zoledronic acid injection combined with vitamin D and calcium carbonate in the treatment of patients with osteoporosis.

Research method: 116 patients with osteoporosis were selected as the research subjects and divided into a control group and an observation group of 58 cases each according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with calcium carbonate combined with vitamin D, and the observation group was treated with zoledronic acid injection on the basis of the control group. The clinical efficacy, serum bone turnover marker levels, bone density, lumbar spine function [lumbar Oswestry Disability Index (ODI)] score and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.

Research results: The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 89.66%, which was higher than 75.86% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<).05); after treatment, the levels of amino-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen and β-degradation products of type I collagen in the observation group were lower than those of the control group, and the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<).05); after treatment, the levels of the femoral neck, hip joint, and Lp of the observation group were significantly lower. The segmental and other bone density levels were higher than those of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<).05); after treatment, the ODI score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.5); there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>(0.05).

Conclusion

Zoledronic acid injection combined with vitamin D and calcium carbonate can improve clinical efficacy, improve serum bone turnover marker levels, increase bone density, and promote joint function recovery in patients with osteoporosis. The effect is better than calcium carbonate alone and vitamin D alone.
