Febuxostat is a selective xanthine oxidase inhibitor that has a specific uric acid-lowering effect without affecting other metabolic processes in the body.

As a new gout drug, febuxostat has quickly occupied the gout market due to its good therapeutic effect and low side effects since its launch, becoming the first choice for most patients. Febuxostat has a very rapid effect in lowering blood uric acid. Generally, if the oral medication is 40 mg per day, the blood uric acid level can reach the target in 1-2 weeks. However, due to the rapid reduction of blood uric acid, it is easy to induce an acute gouty arthritis attack. Therefore, it is not recommended to increase the dosage of febuxostat. Patients are generally required to take 20 mg orally per day at the beginning.
