The main ingredient is febuxostat, whose chemical name is 2-[(3-cyano-4-isobutoxy)phenyl]-4-methyl-5-thiazolecarboxylic acid. It is a xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor and is suitable for long-term treatment of hyperuricemia patients with gout symptoms. What are the precautions for feburic?

1. Febuxostat may damage the liver and cause an increase in transaminases. Febuxostat is metabolized by the liver and is more likely to cause damage to liver function. Therefore, liver function, especially transaminase levels, should be monitored before and after taking the drug. Moreover, if you experience symptoms of liver function impairment at any time while taking febuxostat, including fatigue, anorexia, right upper quadrant discomfort, dark urine, jaundice, etc., you should also seek medical attention immediately to check your liver function.

2. While taking the medicine, the frequency of gout attacks may increase. Febuxostat is generally used as a drug to lower uric acid during the remission phase of gout. However, acute attacks of gout may occur while taking febuxostat. This is because febuxostat has a strong uric acid-lowering effect. If the dose of febuxostat is too high, the uric acid in the blood will drop sharply, which will cause the tophi deposited in the joints to turn into crystals and dissolve. The dissolved crystals will cause immune cells to attack, produce inflammation, and cause joint pain and gout. In order to avoid the above situation, it is recommended that gout patients should not rush for success, take medicine at a low dose, and monitor the uric acid value regularly. After taking a low dose for a period of time, if the uric acid has not reached the standard, it is not too late to increase the dose. However, if the patient has already encountered this situation, there is no need to stop taking the medication. It is recommended to reduce the dosage under the guidance of a doctor. If the pain is still there, you can add anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, such as colchicine and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

3. Cardiovascular events: So far, the causal relationship between this drug and cardiovascular thrombotic events has not been determined, but the febuxostat 80 mg group had more cardiovascular events, so symptoms and signs of myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death should be monitored when taking the drug.

4. Secondary hyperuricemia: This drug has not been studied in patients with secondary hyperuricemia, so its use is not recommended for patients with secondary hyperuricemia.

From the above, you can know that you must be very careful when using medication. No matter what the disease is, you need to use medication correctly under the advice and guidance of a doctor. It is best not to use drugs indiscriminately for treatment, otherwise it may cause harm to the body. In addition, it should be noted that when using febuxostat tablets, it must be properly distinguished from theophylline, which can easily interact with cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and be harmful to the human body. There are no significant interactions when coadministered with warfarin, indomethacin, naproxen, hydrochlorothiazide, desipramine, or colchicine.
