Introduction: Dikaisu (roflumilast) is a prescription drug used to treat adults with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to reduce the number of COPD attacks or worsening of symptoms. Currently, we are not aware of a generic version of Dikaisu (roflumilast), and it is impossible to judge the efficacy of its generic drugs.

Can the generic version of Dikeshu (roflumilast) also be effective in treating diseases?

It is developed and produced by AstraZeneca in the UK. There is currently no generic version. Generic drugs refer to drugs with the same active ingredients, dosage, route of administration and indications produced by other pharmaceutical companies after the patent of the original drug expires. They need to pass strict bioequivalence testing to ensure that their absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion processes in the body are similar to those of the original drug, so as to achieve the same efficacy.

If a generic version of Dikaishu (roflumilast) is approved for marketing in the future, it means that its efficacy is basically the same as that of the original drug, and it can also effectively treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The efficacy of a drug not only depends on its chemical composition, but also on factors such as its preparation technology and bioavailability. Therefore, although generic versions of drugs may be more advantageous in terms of price, patients should still pay attention to the reliability of their quality and efficacy when choosing.

Efficacy of Dikesu (roflumilast)

A clinical trial included 83 COPD patients treated with roflumilast, all of whom had a clinical phenotype of chronic bronchitis and frequent exacerbations and were classified as part of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Category (n=17; 20.5%) and Category D (n=66; 79.5%), the average duration of roflumilast use was 18.9±10.4 months.

Compared with before treatment, roflumilast users had significantly fewer COPD exacerbations (2.7 vs 1.16; P < 0.001) and hospitalizations (0.77 vs 0.32; P < 0.001). Among patients, 22 (26.5%) experienced adverse events during treatment. Roflumilast has been shown to reduce exacerbation and hospitalization rates in real-life patients with severe COPD.

How to store Roflumilast?

Roflumilast needs to be stored in an environment of 20-25°C, and is allowed to fluctuate within the range of 15-30°C. Avoid exposing the drug to extreme high or low temperatures, especially freezing. Choose a dry, well-ventilated place to store the medicine to prevent it from getting damp, and keep it away from direct sunlight. Light may have an adverse effect on the stability of the medicine. You can choose a dark place to store the medication, or use an opaque container to protect the medication from light.

Dikesu (roflumilast) should be placed in the original container and kept sealed. Do not mix or transfer the drug with other drugs to avoid contamination and damage. Regularly check the integrity of the medicine packaging and contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately if it is damaged.
