Clinical studies of valcyte tablets in AIDS patients infected with CMV retinitis have shown that valcyte tablets and intravenous valcyte are equally effective in the induction treatment of CMV retinitis. In the study, patients with newly diagnosed CMV retinitis were randomly assigned to the valcyte group or the intravenous valcyte group for induction therapy. The proportion of patients with progression of CMV retinitis at week four was the same in both groups. After induction therapy, both groups of patients in the study continued to receive maintenance therapy with valcyte tablets 900 mg daily. Among patients who received valcyte tablets or intravenous valcyte induction therapy followed by valcyte maintenance therapy, the mean (median) time from randomization to progression of CMV retinitis was 226 (160) days and 219 (125) days, respectively. 

From this point of view, the efficacy of treating CMV retinitis is quite good. Patients must strictly follow the doctor's instructions, take the medicine on time, and do not change the dosage of the medicine without authorization to prevent accidents.
