In May 2001, the US FDA approved the market. Valcyte tablets are clinically used to treat acute retinitis caused by CMV infection in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Among patients who received valcyte tablets or intravenous valcyte induction therapy followed by valcyte maintenance therapy, the mean (median) time from randomization to progression of CMV retinitis was 226 (160) days and 219 (125) days, respectively.
