Temsirolimus (Temsirolimus) is used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC, a cancer that starts in the kidney), and can also be used to treat relapsed or refractory mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). Temsirolimus belongs to the kinase inhibitor class of drugs, which prevents cancer cells from multiplying by blocking the activity of abnormal proteins, which may help slow tumor growth. Sirolimus, also known as rapamycin, is a macrolide compound used to coat coronary stents to prevent organ transplant rejection. It can also treat a rare lung disease called lymphangioleiomyomatosis. It has immunosuppressive functions in the human body and is particularly useful in preventing kidney transplant rejection.
