Can Temsirolimus treat lung cancer?

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide, and poor prognosis and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy have prompted the development of potential targets for lung cancer treatment. The clinical benefit of chemotherapy is limited by drug resistance and systemic toxicity. Temsirolimus is reported to work by blocking the translation of proteins involved in cisplatin resistance. Studies have shown that in a mouse lung tumor model, the effect of temsirolimus on the growth of lung adenocarcinoma in vitro and in vivo was examined. The combination of low-dose chemotherapy and temsirolimus treatment was more effective in inhibiting tumor growth than the dual chemotherapy regimen. However, it has not yet been approved for the treatment of lung cancer.
