The efficacy and effects of Osimertinib

Four studies found that Osimertinib was effective at shrinking tumors in patients with non-small cell lung cancer and AT and slowing the progression of the cancer. Another study found it helped prevent cancer from coming back in patients who had surgery to completely remove the cancer. In two studies involving 411 previously treated patients with the T790M mutation, the overall response rate (proportion of patients whose tumors shrank) with osimertinib was 66%, with responses lasting an average of 12.5 months. The third study looked at 419 patients who had previously been treated for the T790M mutation. Osimertinib works to prevent the cancer from getting worse, comparing it to platinum-based chemotherapy (the standard treatment for non-small cell lung cancer). Among patients taking osimertinib, cancer was no worse for about 10.1 months compared with 4.4 months for those on chemotherapy. In a fourth study of 556 patients with activating mutations, patients who first started taking osimertinib continued treatment for 18.9 months without worsening of their disease. In a study involving 682 patients with Ex19del or L858R mutations who underwent complete removal of their cancer, 89% of patients taking osimertinib remained disease-free for at least 1 year after treatment.
