What are the side effects of Romiplostim?
Romiplostim is used to increase platelet counts enough to reduce the risk of bleeding, but is not used to increase platelet counts to normal levels. Romiplostim is approved for the treatment of adult patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who have an inadequate response to corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy and pediatric patients 1 year and older who have had ITP for at least 6 months. It also improves survival in adult and pediatric patients (including term newborns) who receive acute myelosuppressive doses of radiation.

The safety profile of romiplostim was similar in all patients regardless of the duration of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), which occurs in patients with long-lasting immune thrombocytopenia Adverse reactions: Bronchitis, sinusitis, vomiting, arthralgia, myalgia, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, upper respiratory tract infection, cough, nausea, and oropharyngeal pain in patients taking romiplostim for up to 12 months. If overdose occurs, platelet counts may increase excessively and lead to thrombotic/thromboembolic complications.
