1. Liver damage:

Cases of drug-induced liver injury (fatal) and asymptomatic hepatic transaminase elevations have occurred in patients taking riluzole, with some patients relapsing after re-treatment with riluzole. In pooled studies 1 and 2, approximately 50% and 8% of riluzole-treated patients had at least one increase in ALT levels above the ULN and 3 times the ULN, respectively. Monitor patients for signs and symptoms of liver injury monthly during the first 3 months of treatment and periodically thereafter. Riluzole is not recommended in patients with liver transaminase levels greater than 5 times the ULN. If there is evidence of liver function abnormalities (e.g., elevated bilirubin), riluzole should be discontinued.

2. Neutropenia:

3. Interstitial lung disease:

Interstitial lung disease, including hypersensitivity pneumonitis, has developed in patients taking riluzole. If interstitial lung disease occurs, discontinue riluzole immediately.
