Efficacy and effects of rasagiline

Rasagiline has been studied in three major studies. In the first study, two different doses of rasagiline alone were compared with placebo in 404 patients with early-stage disease. The primary measure of effectiveness is change in symptoms over26 weeks. Two other studies included levodopa, which compared it with placebo or entacapone, another drug used to treat Parkinson's disease. These studies lasted 26 and 18 weeks respectively.

In all studies, rasagiline was more effective than placebo. In both studies, patients who took rasagiline spent an average of about an hour less in the "off" state than those who took a placebo.
