How much does a box of opicapone cost?
Opicapone is a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor newly approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is safe and effective as an adjuvant treatment with levodopa/carbidopa and can reduce the onset of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Compared with other COMT inhibitors currently on the market, opicapone has the advantage of being administered once daily.
In preclinical trials, opicapone demonstrated significant S-COMT inhibition despite its short half-life, while maintaining acceptable safety and efficacy. The results of the Phase 3 clinical trial further support the safety and efficacy of opicapone as an adjunct to levodopa. Additionally, opicapone at a dose of 50 mg once daily was superior to placebo and noninferior to entacapone in reducing time in the off state. Opicapone exhibits dose-proportional pharmacokinetics over the dose range of 25 mg (0.5 times the recommended dose) to 50 mg. The pharmacokinetics of opicapone are similar in PD patients and healthy subjects. Common adverse reactions of opicapone include dyskinesia, constipation, hypotension/syncope, elevated blood creatine kinase, and weight loss.
Opicapone has not yet been launched in the country, so it is not covered by medical insurance. The European version of Opicapone’s original drug specifications listed overseasThe price per box of 50mg*90 capsules is around RMB 6,000 (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate).
