Can opicapone cure Parkinson's disease?
Opicapone (opicapone) is an oral capsule. It is usually taken once a day before going to bed, at least 1 hour before or 1 hour after a meal. The clinical indication for Opicaponeis the presence of "intermittent periods," meaning moments when antiparkinsonian drugs do not work and tremors or slowness appear. Opicapone and levodopa are co-administered once daily at night. Opicapone does not slow the progression of the disease, but it can reduce the "off period" by 1 hour/day. Well tolerated. It can be taken with other antiparkinsonian drugs, but the dose of levodopa may need to be readjusted.
Opicapone can control Parkinson's disease, but it does not cure it. Continue taking Opicapone even if you feel well. You should not stop taking Opicapone without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking it suddenly, you may develop a serious syndrome that can cause fever, muscle stiffness, abnormal body movements, and confusion. A common side effect that causes patients to discontinue use is movement disorders, and doctors may need to slowly reduce the dose of opicapone and may also change the dosage of other Parkinson's disease drugs. Patients need to strictly follow the doctor's instructions and do not take more or less than the number of times prescribed by the doctor.
