Remyelination with ozanimod
Ozamod (ozanimod) is a drug used to treat multiple sclerosis (MS) and ulcerative colitis (UC). It belongs to a class of drugs called selective S1P receptor modulators. The S1P receptor is located on the surface of immune cells that play a key role in multiple sclerosis. Ozamod regulates the ability of immune cells to enter and leave lymph nodes by binding to S1P receptors, reducing the cells' attack on the central nervous system and alleviating symptoms caused by the disease.
In addition to Ozamod's effect on circulating lymphocytes, another mode of action of the drug as a neuroprotective agent has been proposed, and it is thought to have the potential to promote the regeneration of myelin.Myelin is the protective layer around nerve fibers. In multiple sclerosis, the immune system attacks the myelin, causing problems with nerve conduction. Ozamod is thought to be able to repair damaged nerve fibers by promoting remyelination. Ozamod can readily cross the blood-brain barrier and thus may exert beneficial effects by establishing direct interactions with brain cells, possibly through S1PR5 signaling. Studies in mice have shown that ozanimod can reduce axonal damage and thereby protect central nervous system tissue morphology after induction of demyelination.
The original drug Ozamod has been launched in China, but it has been on the market for a short time and has not been included in the medical insurance. The specific price is not yet clear, and domestic purchase channels are relatively difficult. The price of Ozamod original drug specifications0.92*28 capsules per box listed overseas may be around 19,000 yuan (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate), which is expensive. There is currently no generic version of Ozamod produced and launched. For more drug information and specific prices, please consult the medical consultant of Yaode.
