The Difference Between Delamanid and Bedaquiline

Delamanid and bedaquiline are both new generation anti-tuberculosis drugs used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). They are both effective anti-tuberculosis drugs, but their mechanisms of action, efficacy, and side effects are slightly different. Delamanid is an antibiotic used to treat multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, while bedaquiline is indicated for combination therapy in adults(≥18 years) patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).

Delamanid is a drug that inhibits cell wall synthesis. It blocks the formation of the tuberculosis cell wall by inhibiting the activity of acetyl-CoA carboxylase in bacterial wall synthesis. It is usually used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs and is used to treat MDR-TB, especially in patients who are ineffective in other drug treatments. It is used in oral form. Common side effects of delamanid include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, joint pain, and rash. Serious side effects may include liver damage and irregular heartbeat. Bedaquiline is an ATP synthase inhibitor that inhibits the growth and replication of bacteria by interfering with the energy metabolism within tuberculosis cells. It is also used in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs to treat MDR-TB. It is taken in oral form. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness and joint pain. Serious side effects may include irregular heartbeat and liver damage.

The original drug Delamani has been launched in China and is included in the scope of Class B medical insurance. Reimbursement is limited to patients with multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis. Specifications The price of each box of 50mg*60 tablets may be around RMB 6,000. The price of the Russian version of the original drug Dramani, 50mg*48 tablets, sold overseas may be around RMB 1,000-2,000 per box (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate).
