What is Glofitamab?

Glofitamab (Glofitamab) is an innovative anti-cancer therapy and a type of immunotherapy. It is unique in that it is a bispecific antibody designed to treat specific types of malignancies, primarily B-cell malignancies such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

The core mechanism of gaffetuzumab is to combine two antibodies into one molecule, targeting malignant B cells and natural killer cells respectively. These two antibodies have different effects:

1.CD20Antibody: An antibody that binds to the CD20 receptor on malignant B cells, allowing it to recognize and attack cancer cells. This is because the CD20 receptor is widely expressed in a variety of B cell malignancies, including NHL and CLL.

2.CD3Antibody: Another antibody binds to the CD3 receptor on natural killer cells, activating the natural killer cells. Natural killer cells are part of the immune system and they kill infections and cancer cells.

Gaffetuzumab uses the synergistic effect of these two antibodies to direct natural killer cells to malignantB cells, thereby coaxing the immune system to attack and destroy these cancer cells. This mechanism, called bispecific antibody immunotherapy, is designed to enhance the immune system's attack on cancer while reducing damage to healthy cells.

Graftuzumab treatment is usually administered intravenously to ensure the drug can effectively enter the patient's body. Specific treatment options may vary depending on the type of cancer, severity of disease, and individual characteristics of the patient. Treatment cycles may take weeks or months and include multiple injections and regular follow-up visits.

Graftuzumab has shown encouraging efficacy in clinical trials, particularly in patients who had not seen significant improvement on other treatments. It can provide long-term cancer control and even achieve lasting remission in some cases.
