How much does Temsirolimus cost?

Temsirolimus (Temsirolimus) is a targeted therapy that inhibits the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), rapamycin is a central regulator of tumor cell responses to growth stimuli. Temsirolimus has broad anti-cancer activity and affects the growth, proliferation and survival of tumor cells by specifically inhibiting mTOR.

In a randomized phase III trial that included patients with previously untreated advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and poor prognosis, temsirolimus significantly prolonged overall survival compared with interferon-alpha, a standard therapy. As a result of these results, temsirolimus was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is considered a first-line treatment for patients with advanced kidney cancer with a poor prognosis. Temsirolimus is given as a weekly intravenous injection of 25 mg over 30-60 minutes. Patients treated with temsirolimus developed gastrointestinal disorders (stomatitis, anorexia, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting), rash, fatigue, edema, infection, and dyspnea, as well as hematological and metabolic laboratory abnormalities. Metabolic side effects include hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and hypophosphatemia. Most adverse reactions associated with temsirolimus can be resolved with medical treatment or supportive measures.

The original drug temsirolimus has not yet been marketed in China, and therefore cannot be included in domestic medical insurance. The original temsirolimus drug marketed overseas has a Turkish version and a European version. The ingredients of the two are basically the same. The price of each box of 30mg/1.2mL may be more than 10,000 yuan, and the price of 25mg/mL may be around 3,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates).
