Is Acalabrutinib a chemotherapy drug or a targeted drug?
Acalabrutinib (Acalabrutinib) is a targeted drug that belongs to a class of drugs called BTK inhibitors. BTK is a tyrosine kinase that plays a key role in the signaling pathway of B lymphocytes. Acotinib is mainly used to treat B cell lymphoma, especially adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).
Targeted drugs are different from traditional chemotherapy drugs. Traditional chemotherapy drugs usually treat cancer by killing rapidly dividing cells, but they can also have adverse effects on normal cells, causing a range of side effects. Targeted drugs are designed to interfere with specific biological signaling pathways in cancer cells, thereby targeting cancer cells more accurately and reducing damage to normal cells.
Acotinib blocks the activity of some abnormal signaling pathways in B cells by inhibiting BTK. This is critical for the treatment of B cell lymphomas such as CLL, as these cancers are often associated with abnormal proliferation and survival of B cells. Due to the targeting nature of acotinib, it relatively rarely affects normal cells, thus reducing the toxic side effects during treatment.

Acotinib treatment regimens are generally milder than chemotherapy drugs and may be better tolerated in some patients. This makes acotinib an effective option for treating certain types of leukemia, especially those who have not responded well to or tolerate traditional treatments.
However, like all medicines, acotinib may cause some side effects, which may vary from person to person. Common side effects include headaches, high blood pressure, anemia, etc., but generally speaking, the side effects of targeted drugs are relatively mild and can be better managed under a doctor's supervision.
Acotinib has been launched in China, but it has not yet been included in medical insurance. Since it has just been launched, it is still difficult for patients to purchase it domestically. They need to purchase acotinib through overseas channels. The cheaper ones abroad are mainly generic drugs, mainly Bangladeshi generic drugs. The price is around 6,000 to 7,000, and the ingredients of original drugs and generic drugs are basically the same.
