What are the side effects of filgotinib?

Filgotinib (Filgotinib) is indicated for the treatment of moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in adult patients who have had an inadequate response to or are intolerant to one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) as monotherapy or in combination with methotrexate (MTX). The most common side effects of filgotinib (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) are nausea, upper respiratory tract infection (infection of the nose and throat), urinary tract infection, dizziness, and lymphopenia (low levels of lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell). Filgotinib should not be used in patients with active tuberculosis or other serious infections, nor should it be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Women of childbearing potential must use contraception during treatment with filgotinib and for at least one week after stopping treatment. Treatment with filgotinib may only be used in patients age 65 years or older, patients with a history of cardiovascular disease (such as a heart attack or stroke) or risk factors for such disease (such as current or former long-term smokers), or patients with an increased risk of cancer.
