Is it okay to take Trelagliptin, a hypoglycemic drug imported from Japan, once a week?
Trelagliptin (Trelagliptin) is a new, long-acting, highly selective dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor suitable for once-weekly administration. A phase 2 study showed that once-weekly trotagliptin at doses ranging from 12.5 to 200 mg produced significant reductions in glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) compared with placebo in patients with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes in a dose-dependent manner, with a favorable safety and tolerability profile.

A 24-week phase 3, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled study showed that once-weekly 100 mg oral tretagliptin for 24 weeks had a good safety and tolerability comparable to alogliptin, a once-daily DPP-4 inhibitor. A 52-week Phase 3, open-label, long-term study showed that trotagliptin 100 mg once weekly as monotherapy or in combination with existing oral antidiabetic drugs demonstrated good long-term safety and efficacy.
The original drug of trotagliptin has not yet received relevant approval for marketing in China, so it cannot be covered by medical insurance. Currently, the price of trotagliptin original drug, specification 50mg*20 tablets per box, which is currently on the market overseas, may be around RMB 1,000 (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates). There are also generic Trelagliptin drugs produced in other countries, and their pharmaceutical ingredients are basically the same as those of the original drug. For example, the price of 100mg*21 tablets produced by a Bangladesh pharmaceutical factory may be several hundred yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to exchange rates).
