Indications for Dasatinib

Dasatinib (Dasatinib) is a cancer drug that contains the active substance Dasatinib and is sold under the name Sprycel/Shidasai at home and abroad. It is used to treat adults with the following types of leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells):

1. Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in the "chronic" stage in newly diagnosed patients with "Philadelphia chromosome positive" (Ph+). In chronic myelogenous leukemia, granulocytes (a type of white blood cell) begin to grow out of control. Ph+ means that some of the patient's genes have been rearranged to form a special chromosome, called the Philadelphia chromosome, which produces an enzyme, Bcr-Abl kinase, that leads to the development of leukemia.

2. Chronic myeloid leukemia is in the "chronic", "accelerated" and "acute" stages. Dasatinib is used when other treatments, including imatinib (another cancer drug), don't work or cause troublesome side effects.

3. Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), in which lymphocytes (another type of white blood cell) multiply too quickly, or "lymphoblastic" CML. Dasatinib is used when other treatments don't work or cause troublesome side effects.

Dasatinib is also used in children to treat:

1. Newly diagnosed Ph+CML in the "chronic" stage, or when other treatments including imatinib cannot be given or do not work;

2. Newly diagnosed Ph+ ALL combined with chemotherapy (cancer drugs).

The original drug of dasatinib has been launched in China and is included in the medical insurance. Currently, reimbursement is only available to eligible patients.
