How to take bedaquiline, simplified version

Bedaquiline (Bedaquiline) is only available by prescription. Treatment should be initiated and supervised by a physician experienced in the treatment of MDR-TB. Additionally, healthcare professionals are advised to observe patients while they are taking the medication. Bedaquiline is available as tablets and the recommended dose for adults is 400 mg once daily for the first 2 weeks, then 200 mg three times weekly for the next 22 weeks. Children's dosage is based on the child's weight. These tablets should be takenwith food.

If the patient is unable to swallow all or half of the bedaquiline tablets, the tablets may be dissolved in 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of water in a drinking glass (no more than 5 tablets). Patients may drink this mixture immediately or, to make administration easier, add at least 1 teaspoon (5mL) of additional water, dairy, apple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, or carbonated drink, or a soft drink may be added. Then, swallow the entire mixture immediately. After taking the dose, rinse the cup with a small amount of extra liquid or soft food and take it immediately to ensure thatthe patienthas taken the entire dose. If more than five 20 mg bedaquiline tablets are needed, repeat the above steps until the prescribed dose is reached.
