Is bedaquiline useful in treating tuberculosis? The latest interpretation

When tested on some DS-MTB strains, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (mics) of Bedaquiline were superior to those of rifampicin and isoniazid mics. Bedaquiline monotherapy also outperformed all currently available first-line drugs in a mouse model of tuberculosis with a high initial bacilli load. At 2 months, 20% of mice treated with bedigrine had negative culture results, while all mice treated with rifampicin, moxifloxacin, isoniazid, or pyrazinamide monotherapy had negative culture results.

In mice infectedDS-TB strain H37Rv, treatment with bedaquiline for 2 months was more effective than the combination of isoniazid, rifampicin and pyrazinamide. Eight weeks of bedaquiline monotherapy resulted in greater bacterial load reductions compared with 8 weeks of rifampicin. In a guinea pig model of tuberculosis, 8 weeks of bedaquiline reduced bacterial load in the lungs to undetectable levels. In mouse models, 4 months of bedaquiline was as effective as 6 months of standard first-line treatment.
