The effect of venetoclax/venetoclax in treating myelodysplasia

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a clonal hematopoietic disorder that results in cytopenias and an increased risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Venetoclax/Venetoclax (Venetoclax) is a B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) inhibitor that can induce apoptosis in malignant cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved venetoclax for the treatment of newly diagnosed adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia who are not suitable for intensive chemotherapy. Its application in MDS is being explored.

Veneclat was used in combination with hypomethylating agents (HMAs) in 6 studies and with other drugs in 2 studies. Most patients received prior treatment. Complete response (CR) with or without hematological recovery (CRi) was reported in 45% of patients, stable disease (SD) in 18%, an overall response rate (ORR) of 51%, and 22% of patients underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). Common adverse events with venetoclax are cytopenias, gastrointestinal side effects, and infections, often requiring interruption or dosing. Despite the heterogeneity of the available literature, venetoclax appears to be a promising drug for the treatmentof patients with MDS.

The original drug of Venekra has been launched in China and has been included in Class B medical insurance. The price of 100mg*14 tablets per box may be around 2,000 RMB, while the Turkish version of the original drug sold overseas, with the specification of 100mg*112 tablets, costs more than 10,000 RMB per box (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate). There are also cheaper generic drugs of Venacla sold overseas. Their pharmaceutical ingredients are basically the same as those of the original drugs sold domestically and abroad. For example, the price of 100mg*120 tablets produced by a Bangladesh pharmaceutical factory is more than 4,000 yuan per box (the price may fluctuate due to the exchange rate).
