The correct way to take neratinib/neratinib
Neratinib/ Neratinib is an oral kinase inhibitor that can be used alone for early-stage HER2-positive breast cancer or in combination with capecitabine for advanced or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer if certain criteria are met. Diarrhea is the most common side effect, and loperamide should be started at the same time as neratinib. To ensure the effectiveness and safety of medications, correct administration is crucial.
1. Before taking neratinib, patients should inform their doctor whether they have liver disease, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
2. Neratinib is usually taken as six 40mg tablets (total 240mg) once daily with food. Your doctor may start with a smaller dose in the first week and then increase to that dose within two weeks. Neratinib is available as 40 mg tablets. For a daily dose of 240 mg, six 40 mg tablets are required. The doctor may change the patient's dose if necessary.
3. Take it with food at the same time every day. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush, or split tablets. If a dose of neratinib is missed, skip the dose and take the next dose at the regularly scheduled time. Tell your doctor if you have taken too much neratinib.
4. To minimize the risk of diarrhea, be sure to take loperamide as recommended by your doctor. Tell your doctor if you have more than two bowel movements in a day or if diarrhea persists. Fluids and electrolytes may also be needed if the patient has severe diarrhea or if the diarrhea is accompanied by weakness, dizziness, or fever. To best control diarrhea, patients may need to follow a special diet.
5. If the patient takes antacids, please take neratinib three hours after taking the antacids. If the patient takes acid-lowering drugs (H2-receptor blockers), take neratinib at least 2 hours before or 10 hours after taking the acid-lowering drug. During treatment with neratinib, patients should avoid products containing grapefruit.
6. Neratinib may cause serious liver problems. If you have signs of liver problems, such as upper abdominal pain, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), tell your doctor immediately. Patients will need blood tests to check liver function every every 3 months.
7. Although there is no direct interaction between alcohol and neratinib, patients should not drink excessive amounts of alcohol while taking the drug, as this may increase the risk of side effects such as diarrhea, dehydration, dizziness, and liver problems.
8. If the patient is pregnant, please do not use neratinib. It may harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while using this medication. You should not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
These are general dosage guidelines and individual circumstances may vary. Before taking neratinib, be sure to seek medical advice and learn more about the drug's instructions and side effects.
