How to alleviate the side effects of capmatinib
Capmatinib (Capmatinib) is an anti-tumor drug used to treat non-small cell lung cancer. Although capmatinib is effective against cancer cells, it can also cause some side effects. Side effects are common, occurring in nearly all patients treated with capmatinib, and leading to dose modification or discontinuation in approximately one-quarter of treated patients. Common side effects include edema, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea or constipation, musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, fever, cough, dyspnea, and rash.

1. Nausea and vomiting: If patients experience nausea and vomiting while taking capmatinib, they can try to avoid taking the drug on an empty stomach. It is best to take it after or with a meal. Try to avoid greasy, spicy or rotten foods and choose a diet that is light and easy to digest. Try to eat in smaller portions to avoid overeating. Good news is doctors can use anti-nausea medications such as cisplatin or serotonin receptor antagonists.
2. Fatigue and weakness: You may feel fatigue and weakness after taking capmatinib. Take regular breaks and sleep to ensure adequate sleep time. Arrange activities and work reasonably to avoid overexertion. Moderate light exercise, such as walking or yoga, can help increase physical strength and improve mood. Eat a balanced diet and get enough nutrients.
3. Diarrhea: If patients experience diarrhea symptoms, they can try to choose fiber-rich foods in their diet, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods. Avoid stimulating foods such as coffee, spicy foods and fried foods. Drink plenty of water to maintain fluid balance. If diarrhea is severe, anti-diarrhea medications, such as antidiarrheals, may be needed.
4. Skin reactions: Capmatinib may cause skin dryness, itching, erythema and other reactions. Try to keep your skin clean and moisturized, using a gentle, non-irritating cleanser and moisturizer. Avoid using cosmetics or skin care products that contain alcohol. Avoid direct sunlight and use sunscreen and a sunhat when outside.
