Can lenalidomide, the preferred drug for myeloma, prevent blood clots?
Lenalidomide does not directly prevent blood clots. Lenalidomide is a drug mainly used to treat multiple myeloma. Its main effects include relieving myeloma-related symptoms, such as bone pain, pathological fractures, hypercalcemia, etc. However, there is currently no clear evidence to support the role of lenalidomide in preventing blood clots.
Patients with multiple myeloma have a higher risk of thrombotic events, which is approximately 9 times that of healthy adults. Although treatment with lenalidomide has a significant effect on myeloma, it does not significantly reduce the occurrence of thrombotic events. In fact, in some cases, such as when lenalidomide is combined with high-dose corticosteroids, the risk of thrombotic events may even increase more than 3 times.

Currently commonly used clinical drugs to prevent and treat thrombosis include aspirin, heparin or warfarin, rather than lenalidomide. Although lenalidomide has certain anti-angiogenic effects, this does not mean that it can directly prevent the formation of thrombosis.
For myeloma patients, if they need to prevent blood clots, they should choose appropriate antithrombotic drugs based on their doctor's advice instead of relying on lenalidomide. At the same time, patients should also pay close attention to the occurrence of side effects such as thrombosis during treatment with lenalidomide, and take timely measures to deal with it.
For myeloma patients who have already developed thrombosis, a personalized treatment plan should be formulated according to the specific situation, including thrombolytic therapy, anticoagulant therapy, etc., to minimize the impact of thrombosis on the patient's health. At the same time, patients should also actively cooperate with doctors’ treatment suggestions and maintain good living habits and mentality to reduce the risk of thrombosis.
