Can hydroxychloroquine be taken with baricitinib tablets?
It is not recommended to take hydroxychloroquine and baricitinib tablets together. They should be taken at least half an hour apart to avoid possible adverse reactions.
Hydroxychloroquine (Hydroxychloroquine) is a 4-aminoquinoline derivative antimalarial drug. Its action and mechanism are similar to chloroquine, but its toxicity is only half that of chloroquine. In addition to its antimalarial effect, hydroxychloroquine also has multiple effects such as anti-inflammatory, immune regulation, anti-infection, light filtering and anticoagulation. It is mainly used clinically to treat malaria, allergic and autoimmune diseases. However, hydroxychloroquine may also cause some adverse reactions, such as retinal changes (which may lead to visual field defects, but this situation is reversible after early discontinuation of the drug), and corneal changes (such as corneal edema and opacification).

Baricitinib tablets are a selective immunosuppressive drug that regulates signal transduction pathways by inhibiting specific enzyme activities, thereby reducing the phosphorylation and activation of transduction factors, thus mediating related inflammation, hematopoiesis and immune functions. Baricitinib tablets are mainly used to treat moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis that is ineffective or intolerant to one or more disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARD). However, baricitinib tablets may also cause some serious adverse reactions, such as an increased risk of serious infections, malignant tumors, and thrombosis.
Hydroxychloroquine and baricitinib both work by modulating the immune system. When two or more drugs act on the immune system at the same time, complex interactions may occur, which may lead to increased or decreased efficacy, or even new, unpredictable adverse reactions.
Both hydroxychloroquine and baricitinib tablets may cause a series of adverse reactions. If taken together, these adverse reactions may be additive, increasing the patient's risk. For example, baricitinib tablets may increase the risk of infection, while hydroxychloroquine may have adverse effects on the retina and cornea. These adverse reactions may be aggravated if both drugs are taken together.
