Will hair fall out after taking gosatuzumab for injection?

Sacituzumab govitecan (Sacituzumab govitecan) is a targeted (biological) therapy. Targeted therapies interfere with processes in cells that help cancer grow. Gosatuzumab consists of two parts: sacituzumab, a targeted drug that finds and attaches to cancer cells, and a chemotherapy drug called SN-38. Gosatuzumab is the generic name for the drug, branded Trodelvy, and is used to treat breast cancer and urothelial cancer.

Targeted(biological) therapies block the growth and spread of cancer. In the case of breast cancer, many triple-negative breast cancer cells have higher-than-normal levels of a protein called TROP2 on their cells. Gosatuzumab attaches to the TROP2 protein and can prevent cancer cells from growing. When gosatuzumab attaches to the protein, it delivers the chemotherapy drug SN-38 directly into the breast cancer cells to destroy them. Gosatuzumab also has a “bystander effect.” This means it can damage neighboring cancer cells even if they don't have higher levels of TROP2 on their surface.

Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells by interfering with their ability to divide and grow. It affects healthy cells throughout the body, such as those in hair follicles. In addition to the hair on your head, this can also affect your body hair, including eyebrows, eyelashes, nose and pubic hair, as well as chest hair in men. Not all chemotherapy causes hair loss. Some medications do not cause hair loss, and some medications can cause hair thinning. Hair loss may also depend on the type and dose of medication you are taking, with smaller weekly doses of medications or oral medications less likely to cause hair loss.

Any hair loss should be temporary, and in most cases, hair will grow back once treatment is over. Therefore, the use of gosatuzumab should be done under the guidance of a doctor.
