How effective is Leqselvi (Deuruxolitinib)?

Leqselvi (Deuruxolitinib), an innovative Janus kinase (JAK) selective inhibitor of JAK1 and JAK2, provides a new and effective solution that will greatly increase the options for patients and their physicians who have long-term severe alopecia areata. The pathogenesis of alopecia areata, a chronic autoimmune disease, involves abnormal activation of the immune system, causing hair follicles to become targets of attack, leading to sudden hair loss on the scalp, face and even in many parts of the body.

By blocking the JAK signaling pathway, Leqselvi effectively curbs the pathological process leading to alopecia areata, providing patients with a convenient twice-daily oral treatment. The results of its phase 3 clinical trial showed that after continuous treatment for 24 weeks (nearly 6 months), compared with the placebo group, Leqselvi promoted hair growth, providing a new treatment method for the treatment of alopecia areata.

Further meta-analysis strengthened this finding, indicating that Leqselvi at a dose of 12 mg twice daily may be one of the most effective JAK inhibitors currently available for patients with severe alopecia areata. In a pivotal phase 2 randomized controlled trial, Leqselvi demonstrated a dose-dependent improvement in efficacy. Especially at the dose of 12 mg twice daily, the proportion of patients who achieved SALT50 score at week 24 was as high as 58%, far exceeding the 9% in the placebo group. Although the long-term efficacy and safety data ofLeqselvi needs to be further accumulated, its preliminary performance has fully demonstrated its great potential in the treatment of moderate to severe alopecia areata, bringing new hope to Leqselvi as a new therapeutic drug for patients with long-term severe alopecia areata.
