How to take Leqselvi (Deuruxolitinib)

Leqselvi (Deuruxolitinib) 8 mg tablet is an oral, selective Janus kinase inhibitor of JAK1 and JAK2 approved for the treatment of adult patients with severe alopecia areata. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing partial or total hair loss on the scalp and body. There are currently limited approved treatment options available for alopecia areata.

Leqselvi was approved for medical use in the United States in July 2024, which means that it has undergone rigorous clinical trials and regulatory review and is recognized as a safe and effective drug. Prior to treatment with Leqselvi, a series of tests and evaluations are required, including testing the patient's CYP2C9 genotype, assessment of active and latent tuberculosis, and screening for viral hepatitis. At the same time, necessary immunizations may need to be completed according to the requirements of immunization guidelines, including shingles vaccination.

The recommended dose of Leqselvi for the treatment of severe alopecia areata is 8 mg taken orally twice daily, with or without food.
