Temozolomide side effects
Temozolomide, as an anti-tumor drug, is mainly used to treat adult glioma and malignant melanoma, but its use may also be associated with a series of side effects.
Temozolomide may cause adverse reactions in the digestive system, including decreased appetite, constipation, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms. These mild to moderate gastrointestinal disturbances usually return to normal within 1-2 weeks.
Low immunity is another side effect of temozolomide and may increase a patient's risk of infection, particularly oral candidiasis.
Effects on the blood system are also common side effects of temozolomide, including hemogram abnormalities, anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. These hematological changes require close monitoring, and treatment may need to be adjusted if necessary.
Temozolomide may also have effects on the nervous system and mental state, and patients may experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, emotional instability, insomnia, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and abnormal taste. These neurological and mental adverse reactions may have a certain impact on the patient's quality of life.
Regarding the respiratory system, temozolomide may cause problems such as coughing and difficulty breathing. These symptoms may require medical intervention to relieve symptoms.
Cutaneous side effects include dry skin, allergic reactions (such as severe rashes, hives, etc.), hair loss, and rashes. Allergic reactions may manifest as redness, itching, blisters, or flaking of the skin. In severe cases, they may be life-threatening and require immediate medical attention.
Temozolomide may also cause other side effects, such as muscle weakness, urinary incontinence, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, drowsiness or feeling weak, trouble concentrating, trouble speaking, back or joint pain, and weight gain. In addition, long-term use of temozolomide may also cause damage to liver and kidney function, manifesting as symptoms such as elevated transaminases and jaundice.
Patients should seek immediate medical attention while taking temozolomide if they develop signs of allergic reactions, signs of infection, abnormal bleeding, liver problems, kidney problems, low sodium levels, abnormal heartbeat, or other serious side effects. These serious side effects may pose a threat to the patient's life safety and require prompt diagnosis and treatment.
