Can Ivonib be taken for glioma?
Ivosidenib (Ivosidenib) is a targeted drug specifically used to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with IDH1 gene mutations. However, IDH1 gene mutations occur not only in AML but also in other types of tumors, such as gliomas. Glioma is a malignant tumor derived from glial cells in the brain or spinal cord. Mutations in IDH1 are relatively common, especially in low-grade gliomas and certain types of malignant glioblastoma.
Due to the presence of IDH1 mutations in gliomas, ivonib, an IDH1 inhibitor, is being studied as a potential treatment for these specific types of gliomas. Preclinical studies and early clinical trials have shown that ivonib may have a certain therapeutic effect on glioma patients with IDH1 mutations. Its mechanism of action is similar to that in AML, that is, by inhibiting the mutated IDH1 enzyme, it reduces the production of 2-hydroxyglutarate (2-HG), thereby possibly inhibiting tumor growth and progression.

However, despite these encouraging findings, ivonib has not yet been officially approved for the treatment of glioma. Current use is still limited to clinical trials, primarily to evaluate its safety and effectiveness in glioma patients. Therefore, although ivosidenib may be theoretically effective against IDH1 mutant gliomas, in clinical practice, whether ivosidenib can be used in glioma patients needs to be determined on a case-by-case basis, usually within the framework of a clinical trial.
For patients diagnosed with IDH1 mutated glioma and considering the use of ivosidenib, it is recommended to consult a professional doctor and learn about relevant clinical trial opportunities. Doctors can provide the most appropriate treatment suggestions based on the patient's specific condition and the latest research progress. Without sufficient clinical evidence and formal approval, ivonib should not be used as a standard treatment for glioma.
