What medicines can be taken with bedaquiline?
Bedaquiline (Bedaquiline) This medicine must be used with other medicines to treat active multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in people who have limited treatment options. Bedaquiline belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics, which work by stopping the growth of the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. This drug may increase the risk of death. It should only be used when other treatments have not worked. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections and is not effective against viral infections (such as the common cold, flu). Using an antibiotic when it's not needed can render it less effective against future infections.

Bedaquiline can be used in combination with certain anti-tuberculosis drugs, and all principles of the WHO-recommended MDR-TB treatment regimen must be adhered to. The recommended MDR-TB treatment regimen usually includes at least pyrazinamide and four second-line drugs considered effective: a fluoroquinolone (preferably newer generation), a second-line injectable and two bacteriostatic drugs, preferably propylsulfamide or ethylsulfamide plus cycloserine or para-aminosalicylic acid.
MDR-TB patients with strains resistant to fluoroquinolones or second-line injectable drugs (kanamycin, amikacin, capreomycin) are of particular concern, as these are the two most effective second-line drugs. In this context, bedaquiline may play a key role in strengthening regimens, reducing the number of potentially effective drugs to a minimum of four and avoiding the acquisition of additional drug resistance and progression toward extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB).
In order to ensure safe and effective treatment, patients should receive regular clinical monitoring during the use of bedaquiline, including liver function, electrocardiogram testing, etc., to promptly detect and deal with possible adverse reactions. In addition, when patients start any new medications, they should inform their doctors of all medications they are taking so that they can evaluate drug-drug interactions.
