Is it okay to take venetoclax without chemotherapy?

Venetoclax (Venetoclax) taken alone can be used for treatment in some cases, but it is usually recommended to use it in combination with other medications to enhance its effectiveness. As a targeted drug, venetoclax specifically induces apoptosis of cancer cells by inhibiting BCL-2 (BCL-2) protein. This combination therapy has shown better clinical efficacy, significantly improving response rates and prolonging progression-free survival. While venetoclax alone has shown efficacy in some cases, especially in patients who are not candidates for chemotherapy, most studies have shown that combination therapy is more effective, more effectively reducing cancer cells and extending patient survival.

For acute myeloid leukemia (AML), venetoclax is often combined with low-dose chemotherapy drugs such as azacitidine (Azacitidine) or decitabine (Decitabine). For older patients who cannot tolerate high-intensity chemotherapy, a combination of venetoclax and low-dose chemotherapy drugs can provide a milder but effective treatment option. Venetoclax alone may not be as effective as combination therapy, and acute leukemia progresses rapidly and monotherapy may not be enough to effectively control the disease.

Although in some special cases, doctors may choose to have patients take venetoclax alone based on the patient's constitution, age or other health factors, in most cases, combination therapy is considered the best option. Single-agent use may be appropriate in some patients who are not candidates for chemotherapy, but close monitoring and evaluation of treatment effects are required.
