How to take rubicatin/rubicatin

Lurbinectedin is a new anti-tumor drug mainly used to treat adult patients with metastatic small cell lung cancer (SCLC) whose disease has progressed during or after platinum-based chemotherapy. The active ingredient of the drug is rubicatin, which is an injectable preparation. It appears as a sterile and preservative-free white to off-white powder. It is packaged in single-dose transparent glass bottles. Each box contains a 4 mg single-dose vial.

Before using rubicatin, doctors often consider the use of prophylactic antiemetic drugs to improve the patient's tolerance of the treatment. Recommended preinfusion medications include corticosteroids, such as intravenous dexamethasone 8 mg or its equivalent, and serotonin antagonists, such as intravenous ondansetron 8 mg or its equivalent. These pretreatment measures can effectively reduce nausea and vomiting reactions caused by chemotherapy.

The recommended dosage of Rubicatin is 3.2 milligrams per square meter (mg/m²), administered to patients via intravenous infusion, once every 21 days, and the infusion time is 60 minutes. Treatment will continue until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. Before starting treatment, the patient's absolute neutrophil count (ANC) must be confirmed to be at least 1,500 cells/mm³, and the platelet count must not be less than 100,000 cells/mm³. This is to ensure that patients have adequate immune and blood system support while receiving treatment to reduce the risk of infection and other complications.

During treatment, if a patient experiences an adverse reaction, the doctor may need to adjust the dose of the drug based on the severity of the reaction. For example, the first dose may be reduced to 2.6 mg/m², while the second dose may be further reduced to 2 mg/m². This flexible dosing strategy helps minimize patient discomfort and risk during treatment.
