What is the dosage of tobramycin?
Before antibiotic inhalation preparations were launched on the market, antibiotic injections were commonly used in clinical practice for aerosol inhalation administration. However, antibiotic injections often add preservatives, antioxidants, stabilizers and other excipients, and the addition of these excipients may affect the normal activity of cilia. It was not until October 2022 that my country approved the launch of the first inhaled antibiotic inhalation solution (Bethkis). Its prescription does not contain preservatives and antioxidants. So, what is the usage and dosage of tobramycin?
Tobramycin usage and dosage
Bethkis is for oral inhalation only. For patients 6 years of age and older, BETHKIS is available in 1 disposable ampoule (300 mg/4 mL) for oral inhalation administration twice daily, with repeated cycles of 28 days on and 28 days off. Administration should be administered 12 hours apart whenever possible, and no less than 6 hours apart.
The 300 mg/4 mL dose of BETHKIS is the same for patients regardless of age or weight. BETHKIS has not been studied in patients younger than 6 years of age.
Miss a dose
If a patient misses a dose, it should be taken as soon as possible at any time within 6 hours before the next scheduled dose. If the next dose is less than 6 hours away, wait until the next scheduled dose.
How to use tobramycin
Inhale BETHKIS orally using a hand-held PARI LC PLUS reusable nebulizer equipped with a PARI Vios air compressor for approximately 15 minutes until the nebulizer output is sputtering for at least 1 minute. BETHKIS should not be diluted or mixed with Dowase alfa or other medications in the nebulizer. BETHKIS is not for subcutaneous, intravenous, or intrathecal administration.
BETHKIS should not be used if it is turbid, has particles in the solution, or has been stored at room temperature for more than 28 days.
