[Drug name], Shudan, Zofran, Ondansetron
[Indications] For the prevention of: nausea and vomiting associated with highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy, including cisplatin greater than or equal to 50 mg/m2. Nausea and vomiting associated with initial and repeated courses of moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy. Nausea and vomiting from radiation therapy, postoperative nausea and/or vomiting in patients receiving total body irradiation, a single high-dose fraction of the abdomen, or abdominal daily fractions.
【Usage and Dosage】
1. For vomiting caused by highly emetic chemotherapy drugs: Inject 8 mg of ondansetron injection intravenously 15 minutes before chemotherapy, 4 hours, and 8 hours after chemotherapy. After stopping chemotherapy, take 8 mg ondansetron tablets (2 tablets) orally every 8 to 12 hours for 5 days.
2. For vomiting caused by chemotherapy drugs that are not very emetic: Inject 8 mg of ondansetron injection intravenously 15 minutes before chemotherapy, and then take 8 mg of ondansetron tablets orally every 8 to 12 hours for 5 days.
3. For vomiting caused by radiotherapy: the first dose of 8 mg tablets (2 tablets) must be taken orally 1 to 2 hours before radiotherapy, and 8 mg orally every 8 hours thereafter. The course of treatment depends on the course of radiotherapy.
4. For the prevention of nausea and vomiting after surgery: Take 8 mg tablets (2 tablets) orally 1 hour before anesthesia, and then take 8 mg tablets (2 tablets) twice every 8 hours.
[Side Effects] The most common adverse reactions in adults:
Preventive chemotherapy causes (greater than or equal to 5%) are: headache, malaise/fatigue, constipation, diarrhea.
Prevention of radiation-induced nausea and vomiting (greater than or equal to 2%) are: headache, constipation and diarrhea.
Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (greater than or equal to 9%) are: headache and hypoxia.
【Notes】
Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis and bronchospasm: If suspected, discontinue ZOFRAN. Monitor and treat promptly according to standard of care until signs and symptoms resolve.
QT prolongation and Torsade de Pointes: Avoid in patients with congenital long QT syndrome; monitor with an electrocardiogram (ECG) if concomitant electrolyte abnormalities, heart failure or arrhythmias are used, or if other QT prolonging drugs are used.
Serotonin syndrome: reported only with 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, but especially with concomitant use of serotonergic drugs. If such symptoms occur, discontinue ZOFRAN and initiate supportive care. If concomitant use of ZOFRAN with other serotonergic drugs is clinically justified, patients should be made aware of the potential increased risk for serotonin syndrome.
