Rabeprazole and esomeprazole are both drugs that inhibit gastric acid. They are mainly used to treat gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, reflux esophagitis, etc. These two drugs basically have the same effect, but there are differences. Let’s take a look at the difference between esomeprazole and rabeprazole!

Rabeprazole and esomeprazole are commonly used clinical PPIs

First and second generation:

First generation PPIs: omeprazole, lansoprazole and pantoprazole. Mainly metabolized by hepatic drug enzyme CYP2C19, there are obvious individual differences, many drug interactions, slow onset of action, and weak acid suppression effect.

Second-generation PPIs: rabeprazole and esomeprazole, the proportions metabolized by CYP2C19 are reduced to varying degrees, individual differences are significantly reduced, and the acid-suppressing effect is also stronger.

The active ingredient of esomeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets is esomeprazole magnesium. Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole. It reduces gastric acid secretion through a specific targeting mechanism and is a specific inhibitor of proton pumps in parietal cells.

Esomeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets are suitable for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive reflux esophagitis, and long-term maintenance treatment to prevent recurrence of cured esophagitis patients.

The main component of rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated capsules is rabeprazole sodium. Rabeprazole is a benzimidazole compound and a second-generation proton pump inhibitor. It blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion by specifically inhibiting the H+-K+ ATPase system of gastric parietal cells. This effect is dose-dependent and can inhibit both basal gastric acid secretion and gastric acid secretion under stimulation. This product has no antagonistic effect on choline and histamine H2 receptors.

Rabeprazole sodium enteric-coated capsules are used to treat acid-related diseases, such as gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellision syndrome, etc.
